Preservation Process

It is recommended that arrangements should be made prior to the wedding or event for someone to deliver the flowers. They can be dropped off or shipped, and on some occasions, someone from Southern Flower Preservation could pick them up if the location is within the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill vicinity. If an unexpected event occurs or you have flowers that you wish to keep and have not talked to anyone about preserving them, you may send them immediately to us. Please call so we know to expect your package.

It is important that we receive the flowers as soon after the event as possible (1 to 4 days). The condition we receive them is the best condition they can be preserved at. Any damage or dead flowers will not be useable. We do offer substituting or replacement of flowers if you allow for this.

How to Care for the Flowers
BEFORE PACKAGING AND SHIPPING,
  • DO NOT water or spray petals with water.
  • DO NOT put in the freezer.
  • IF the flowers were arranged in OASIS or FOAM, you MAY pour water on the oasis or foam ONLY.
Shipping Instructions
PACKAGING for Shipping:
There are several methods and materials that are listed below. By reading each, you should be able to find a way that works for you.
  1. Wrap the flowers loosely in several layers of tissue paper, newspaper, or paper towels. Place the wrapped flowers in a box and have it protected by many "wads" of newspaper or similar type of paper. Make sure the bouquet is secured from movement, but not too tight to breath.

DO NOT WATER THE FLOWERS PRIOR TO PUTTING IN BOX

  2. A more expensive and need for more supplies can also be used. You may buy a styrofoam cooler which fits snuggly in a shipping box. Ice packs can be placed in the bottom of the styrofoam with a plastic layer over it to prevent the flowers from touching the ice. Place the flowers in the cooler and surround it with wads as described above.

For a sample cost of shipment, a bouquet was packaged with tissue paper and wades of newspaper in a box and shipped from the United States Post Office via Express Mail to be delivered before 3:00 pm the next day. The cost from the Washington D.C. area to Apex was $19.00. If 2-3 day delivery was chosen, it would have been approximately $6.00. The flowers were delivered at 8:30 am.

Choosing What you Want and Styles
There are several styles and custom work that we offer to you. The main decision is to determine whether you want only the bouquet framed, the bouquet and announcement, or if a mat with your flowers designed around an opening for the placement of a picture, document, etc is what you desire. You can look at the Products page to help assist you in the type of designs offered.

Once you decide on the product, if you chose a mat or tile, we can discuss what layout style you like (ie, flowers in a swag around top and bottom, flowers in lower left corner, etc). The standard mat colors are off-white, pale/neutral green, grayish-green, grayish-blue, maroon, black, a periwinkle blue, and soft pink. In considering the mat colors, it helps to know what style frame you like too. Whether it is a wooden frame (light or dark), a gold frame, antique frame, etc.
In sum:

  • What display of flowers (only bouquet, use announcement, around a mat, etc)
  • What type of frame (gold, wood, silver, etc)
  • Color of backdrop or mat

We use a unique process to deliver well cared for, and long lasting preservation. Flowers can be framed using a UV glass cover, however, using the laminating process with the vacuum seal, air and other possible contaniments are sealed out from harming the flowers. The materials will prolong the vibrant color, but do be aware that as with any process, time will still cause slight discoloration.

All pieces that are of a standard size, we are able to frame ourselves. While we are not professional framers, we will frame using the pre-made frames and give it the professional framing finish. On the other hand, if we create a piece that is a non-traditional size, we utilize a local custom framer who's prices are reasonable and the work is beautiful. The frames are all custom made. Southern Flower Preservation will charge the exact billing amount that the framer charges, and can provide you the receipt to show this. We will not mark up on these services. The price list we have includes our frames that we pre-purchase. If you prefer to have the local framer do the work, we can get you an estimate. If you are local to the Research Triangle Park area of NC, you may also visit the framer, or work with your own. Our goal is to please you.
